Who's Here?

Jeff Brookens, LMFT, MBA

I believe that at any given moment we are all doing the best that we can, with what we have within us, at that very moment. Everyone has found themselves in the midst of struggle at some point, and that struggle may appear the familiar or uniquely different to us each time. No one can force a change to happen so there is never a guarantee of services. However, if you are looking for someone to provide safety and support while challenging you to better understand yourself and the roles you have - this may be a good space for you.

I enjoy working with a wide variety of concerns such as anxious/depressive symptoms, relationship conflict, trauma, and personality disorders. I am open to working with individuals, couples and families - however working with couples and families is largely my favorite dynamic. I do have some experience with children, but 14 and up is usually ideal as I am not focused in practicing play therapy. My own experiences and growth have led to an interest in helping with changing life phases such as the joys and stressors of pregnancy, postpartum, divorce and military transitions.

In sessions with me, you’ll find that you are always in control of what we discuss. In every therapeutic relationship, I believe that the client is the expert in the room – who knows your story better than you anyway? My role is to be present, and make sure that our space becomes/remains a secure environment for whatever you decide to address at that time.

I believe in creating a safe and trusting therapeutic setting where individuals, children and families are able to explore themselves and relationships . We all experience difficulties in our lives from time to time and it is my role to sit with you while we explore them. I enjoy working with a variety of concerns; such as anxiety, depression, relational conflict, and trauma to name a few. There is never a guarantee with any service, but if you are looking for someone who can provide a safe, supportive listening ear while simultaneously challenging you to meet your goals. This might be the space for you!

I am passionate about creating a safe space to nurture oneself, explore resilience and build internal strength that can flourish outside of the therapeutic setting. I enjoy working with a variety of populations, ages and symptoms. I have spent several years focused on trauma, building parenting skills, and understanding the child mind and behavior.

In our sessions, you will be the leader and in control of what topics are discussed. I believe that you are the expert on you! My role is to provide safety, security and an environment that serves you and your growth.

Sometimes life has a way of feeling like a storm. I believe that all individuals have the courage to overcome these times if provided a safe and inviting environment. My goal in therapy is to create that space through acceptance, connection, and compassion. Through a collaborative process I hope to help individuals find their voice, create balance through mindfulness, and work towards their goals. I understand that working towards change can be overwhelming and that embracing openness can allow for new experiences in life. I am willing to be there with you to find peace within and be present the way you want to in life, through creating new meaning.

As a marriage and family therapist, your autonomy and experiences are at the forefront of my practice. Through an experiential lens I will collaborate with you on your healing journey; at times I may find ways to incorporate art into your healing experiences. My areas of expertise include trauma recovery, traumatic relationships, and couples work. Special areas of interest include parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, as well as, parents of children experiencing NICU hospitalizations.

I invite you to contact me if you are open to exploring the possibility of me being the right therapist for you. My space is open for individuals, couples, families, and teens.
